When the hands are held like paws of a tiger we get Vyaagraha Hasta.
Lets take a look at the Viniyoga Shloka (uses)
vyadhe bheke markatecha
suktau sanyujyate karaha
Shloka says that such a gesture is used to denote
- A Tiger
- A frog
- An Ape
- Nacre. Nacre is crystalline aragonite or calcium carbonate. Shellfish and mollusks excrete it when they are exposed to a parasite or a foreign body introduced into a shell. Nacre is Known for its shine and iridescence, and its coating on shells is called mother of pearl.
Note- Some call this gesture as Urnanbha.
hare krishna, how are you?
can i use this mudra if a character is representing lord nrsimhadev, when he defeats hiranyakasipu? accompained with ardhamandala position and valour facial expression? is a correct combination?
madhurani d.d.
Yes Didi, you can use this mudra for Narasimha Avatara. There is room for both the expressions Anger and Valour. Also the legs can be in a position called Prerita, where the legs are one and a half feet apart and bent at the Knees. (This position is similar to the postures in Mohiniattom and kathakali)
