Aarala Hand Gesture (Mudra)

It is done when the Index finger is bent while doing the Pataka Mudra. Here the index finger is bent along with the thumb, while the other fingers are held straight.

Lets look at the viniyoga shloka for Aarala:

Vishadhya-amruta paneshu prachanda pavanepicha.

It is used to denote the following.

  • Drinking poison , nectar etc
  • Violent wind

    hi..
    i hav learnt bharatnatyam for 2 yrs.. but had to leave it due to some personal problems… and cudnt continue later even…
    at today’s date, i remember nothing of the dance form except a few steps n mudras..
    came across ur site by chance… found it quite good..

    hope i wil b able to dance again someday šŸ™‚
