Jatiswaram is another Nritta piece. Here the advaus are performed to swara patterns. Like Sa , ni , da , pa. There is no Sahityam unlike Swarajati. Every Jati is alternated by Swarams. A jatiswaram has Charanams which are sung in swarams and followed by Pallavi every time. There can be three or more charanams.
Jatiswarams are in different Ragams and Talams. The Tanjore quartets compositions are widely performed. Some famous composition are
Kalyani ragam Rupakam
Ragamalika in Misrachapu,
Vasantha in Rupakam.
Many have been asking how is Jatiswaram different from swarajati. One obvious difference is the presence of Sahityam in Swarajati, and none at all in Jatiswaram. Jatiswaram has Jatis (rhythmic syllables) included in its compositions. It is music applied to dance. While Swarajati is a pure musical form.
I will be demonstrating the one in Kalayani Ragam. Watch the first two parts of this Jatiswaram.

I am glad I found this website, we are doing a natym and I am doing this dance. My teachers says that my facial expressions aren’t that great and I agree,will it come easy to a12 year old? I am worried and when ever I start doing facial expressions I start getting shy and laughing. Can you give me some tips? I feel sad because I failed the natym before and I always get depressed thinking about it and I failed it mainly because of facial expressions. So may people in the class are way better than me at facial expressions leaving me out as usual. I’ve only been learning an year, maybe it doesn’t come that quickly?

i saw all the jathis but, when i was young and used to learn bharatanatyam, our solla kutta was a lil different. its kinda started the 1st jathi with, TALANGHAJHAM TALANGHAJHAM TALANGHAJHAM, TADIN KINATHOM, TALANGAJHAM TADIN KINATHOM, TALANGAJHAM TADIN KINATHOM, TEI HATH TARI TAKA TADIN KINATHOM, TAKA DITH TARI TAKA TADINKINATHOM, TEI HA DITH TEI DITH TEI DITH TEI…. and so on. I cant find it anywhere. god knows wat happened to that jathis origin??? i m a bit confused about it. i know it was bases on mishrachap.

@Adriana, the difference is the Ragam that you have mentioned. If you listen to each of them there will be changes in the tune and that is because of the Ragam. Each ragam has got its own Arohanam(ascend) Avarohanam(descend). Also the changes in the Rhythm is because of the Talam-jati combination.

@Sadhana, Lord Hanuman can be shown with both hand in padmakosha facing down that denotes a monkey. He can also be shown and son of Pavana. Use the gesture for pavana and followed by showing a kid or son. Other way could be shown as he holds the sanjeevani mountain in one hand and a mace on the other and lift one feet to show the lord in flight.
