Shukatunda Hand Gesture (Mudra)

March 3rd, 2008 by Anjali

When the Ring finger of the Arala mudra is bent we get Shukatunda Hasta.

shukatunda

Shukatunda is used to denote the following:

  • Shukatunda literally means a Parrots Head
  • A shooting of an arrow
  • A spear
  • Remembering one’s Abode
  • Saying of Mystic things
  • A violent mood

Question, I have a wondering about a specific mudra that i have seen used. It is exactly like the shukatunda mudra, but the index finger is unbent. Is this an existing mudra and if so whaat are it’s relations?

I know this is a very random question, but I have been trying to find an answer for some time. If you can help, thank you.

I believe you have in mind a tripataka mudra.

    Hello from Cairo:
Thanks for all the info about this classical
dance of India. Still going strong with the
    adavus.
I wish that the photos of the hand gestures were
all on one page. It’s a bother to switch back and
    forth to view each one.
I hope to visit Madras in Dec for the annual dance
    week of Bharata Natyam.
    Best wishes.
