Aarala Hand Gesture (Mudra)

January 18th, 2008 by Anjali

It is done when the Index finger is bent while doing the Pataka Mudra. Here the index finger is bent along with the thumb, while the other fingers are held straight.

Arala

Lets look at the viniyoga shloka for Aarala:

Vishadhya-amruta paneshu prachanda pavanepicha.

It is used to denote the following.

  • Drinking poison , nectar etc
  • Violent wind

Great effort and work. God bless you for this enlightening work.
I am 75 years old and loved Bharat natyam from very young age. I
Saw Kamala Laxman, Sudha Doraiswamy, Vasantsena Etc many times. Never understood the complexities. Thanks for such a lucid
    Explanation. Thanks, Madav
